Facebook ad size (2026): 1440 × 1800 px

Facebook feed image ads should be 1440 × 1800 pixels (4:5), Meta's recommendation; 1080 × 1350 and 1080 × 1080 also work. Facebook Stories ads are 1440 × 2560 (9:16) and carousel cards are 1080 × 1080 (1:1).

Meta's Facebook Stories image page asks for roughly 14% at the top, 35% at the bottom and 6% at each side; its video page asks for 14% at the top and 20% at the bottom. At 1440 × 2560 the image rule's bottom zone starts at y = 1664 and the video rule's at y = 2048, and the 86 px side strips come from the image page only. Pixel values are our arithmetic on Meta's percentages.

How Facebook shows your image

  • Feed image ads use 4:5. On a phone that is taller than a square, so the ad takes more of the screen.
  • Meta applies a 3% tolerance to the ratio for feed images and carousel cards, so a file slightly off 4:5 or 1:1 is accepted.
  • Carousel cards are square and the card count is 2 to 10; each card can have its own image or video.
  • Stories ads are full-screen vertical. Meta asks you to keep the top and bottom clear so UI elements such as the call-to-action do not cover your text and logos.
  • The right column is a small desktop-only slot, and Meta recommends no text on the image there.

How to resize and upload

  1. 01Choose the placement first: feed image, carousel, Stories or right column. They have different shapes.
  2. 02Pick the matching preset in the resizer above: Feed 4:5 for feed images, Square 1080 × 1080 for carousel cards and the right column, Story 1440 × 2560 for Stories.
  3. 03Use Crop to fill and adjust the position until the product or face sits well. Detect subject can place it.
  4. 04For Stories, turn on Show safe zone and keep text and logos inside the box, away from the top, bottom and sides.
  5. 05Download JPG for photos or PNG for graphics, then check the file against Meta's specs: under 30 MB and at least 600 × 750 for a feed image. Meta also recommends at least 1080 × 1080 for a carousel card.
  6. 06In Ads Manager, open the placement preview for Facebook Feed and Stories and check the crop before publishing.

Common mistakes to check before you post

  • Using one 1080 × 1080 image everywhere. It is accepted in the feed but is not the 9:16 shape the Stories guides ask for.
  • Putting text in the top 14% or bottom 20 to 35% of a Stories ad. Meta says UI elements such as the call-to-action can cover it.
  • Uploading a 4:5 image that is 500 px wide. The feed minimum is 600 px wide and 750 px tall.
  • Writing a 40-character headline for a feed image ad. The guide recommends 27 characters, so check the preview for truncation.
  • Stuffing text onto the right column image. Meta recommends no text there because the image is small.
  • Assuming one Stories safe zone fits all. Meta's Facebook Stories video page says 20% at the bottom; its Facebook Stories image page and Instagram Stories page say 35% plus 6% per side, so use the larger zone for shared creative.

What is the best Facebook ad size?

Use 1440 × 1800 (4:5) for feed image ads. That is the resolution on Meta's Ads Guide, along with a 600 px minimum width, JPG or PNG, and a 30 MB limit. The file can be 1080 × 1350 and still work, since it has the same shape and clears the minimum width.

Older guides give 1080 × 1080; SaveMyLeads still did in July 2024. Meta's page now lists 1440 × 1800 as the recommendation, and PPC Land's summary of Meta's placement docs says Facebook Feed still supports 1:1, so treat square as the fallback, not the best option.

Worked example: how much ratio drift is allowed

The guide gives a 3% tolerance on the 4:5 ratio. We read that as a 3% allowance on the ratio itself: 0.8 × 0.97 = 0.776 to 0.8 × 1.03 = 0.824. At 1080 px wide that means a height from 1080 ÷ 0.824 = about 1311 px to 1080 ÷ 0.776 = about 1392 px.

So 1080 × 1350 is comfortably inside, and a 1080 × 1300 file just outside. Meta does not spell out how it applies the percentage, so aim for exactly 4:5 and use the tolerance as slack, not a target.

Carousel and video ad sizes

Carousel cards are 1:1, and Meta recommends at least 1080 × 1080, with 2 to 10 cards, per the carousel spec. Image cards are JPG or PNG up to 30 MB; video cards can be MP4, MOV or GIF up to 4 GB. Primary text is 80 characters, headline 20 and description 18.

Feed video follows the image: 1440 × 1800 at 4:5, MP4, MOV or GIF, up to 4 GB, with a 120 px minimum on each side (feed video spec). The page also asks for H.264 compression, square pixels, a fixed frame rate, progressive scan and stereo AAC audio at 128 kbps or higher.

Stories ads and the right column

Facebook Stories ads are 1440 × 2560 at 9:16, and Meta's two Stories pages disagree on the safe zone. The Stories image spec asks you to keep roughly 14% at the top, 35% at the bottom and 6% on each side free of text, logos and key elements: about 358 px, 896 px and 86 px at 1440 × 2560, leaving a 1268 × 1306 area. Image files are JPG or PNG up to 30 MB, at least 500 px wide.

The Stories video spec asks for roughly 14% (250 px) at the top and 20% (340 px) at the bottom, allows 1 second to 3 minutes, and takes MP4, MOV or GIF up to 4 GB. The Instagram Stories image spec matches the stricter 14/35/6 zone. If one creative runs in several places, design to the larger zone; the resizer's Story preset outlines it. For Instagram placements, and a table that puts both apps side by side, see the Meta ad specs cheat sheet.

The right column ad is a desktop-only 1:1 image, at least 1080 × 1080, with a 254 × 133 px minimum. Meta recommends not adding text on the image because of its small size.

From organic post to ad

The shapes line up. A 1080 × 1350 organic post has the 4:5 shape and clears the 600 × 750 minimum for a feed image ad. The Facebook post size, Instagram post size and Facebook cover photo size guides cover the organic side, and the Meta ad copy preview checks text limits before you launch.

What we could not confirm

  • Meta's Ads Guide pages show different recommendations in different places. The feed image, carousel, feed video, Stories image, Stories video and right column pages were read on 2026-10-05; Meta changes them often, so confirm in Ads Manager.
  • How Meta applies the 3% tolerance is not defined on the pages we read; our ratio range is one reading.
  • Meta's Facebook Stories pages disagree: the video page asks for 14% top and 20% bottom, the image page for 14% top, 35% bottom and 6% per side. The 358, 896 and 86 px figures are our arithmetic on the image page's percentages.
  • The Stories video page pairs 14% with 250 px and 20% with 340 px, which do not match 14% and 20% of a 2560 px (or 1920 px) tall frame. We use the percentages.
  • Meta's own aspect-ratio-by-placement help page would not load for us. That Facebook Feed still supports 1:1 comes from PPC Land's summary (July 2025).
  • The feed video page's length ('1 second to 241 minutes') differs slightly from the carousel page ('240 minutes'); we report each as written.
  • We did not check every Facebook placement, such as Marketplace, Reels or in-stream, nor ad-account-specific limits.
