LinkedIn banner size (2026): 1584 × 396 px
A LinkedIn personal profile banner (the cover or background photo) should be 1584 × 396 pixels, a 4:1 ratio, as a JPG or PNG under 8 MB. A company Page cover is a different size: 1512 × 256 pixels, PNG or JPEG, up to 3 MB.

Profile banner: what the photo and mobile crop hide
- Mobile view, about 1350 × 230
- Profile photo
How LinkedIn shows your image
- On desktop the banner sits behind your profile photo, which overlaps its lower-left corner. LinkedIn notes that how the image appears can change with the browser window size and screen resolution.
- On phones the profile photo moves toward the bottom center and the banner is cropped at the sides and the top and bottom. Third-party tests put the visible area near 1350 × 230 px.
- LinkedIn states no safe zone for the profile banner. Every pixel figure for the overlap and the mobile crop on this page comes from third-party guides and is approximate.
- A company Page cover is much flatter than a profile banner, about 5.9:1 against 4:1. A profile banner uploaded as a Page cover loses most of its height.
- For a Page cover, LinkedIn says the image may be trimmed horizontally or vertically to fit the screen, and advises keeping key details away from the edges, especially the lower-right corner. Third-party guides add that the company logo sits over the lower-left; LinkedIn does not say how far it reaches.
How to resize and upload
- 01Check which LinkedIn header you are replacing. A personal profile takes 1584 × 396; a company Page takes 1512 × 256. Pick the matching preset in the resizer above.
- 02Drop in an image at least 1584 px wide. LinkedIn publishes no minimum for the profile banner, but a narrower file has to be enlarged and looks soft.
- 03Leave Crop to fill selected and move the image until your key content sits right of the profile photo and below the top edge. Detect subject can place it for you.
- 04Turn on Show safe zone. For the profile banner it outlines the approximate mobile view, so text inside the dashed box should survive on a phone.
- 05If you can't lose any part of the image, switch to Fit inside and choose a solid background that matches your brand.
- 06Download JPG or PNG, the two formats LinkedIn lists for the profile banner. For a company Page cover, LinkedIn suggests a high-resolution JPEG over PNG and caps the file at 3 MB.
- 07Upload it in LinkedIn, then open your profile on a phone as well as a computer. If anything important is clipped, nudge it toward the center and upload again.
Common mistakes to check before you post
- Using one image for the profile banner and the company Page cover. They are 4:1 and about 5.9:1, so one of them will be cropped hard. Export each at its own size.
- Putting your name, headline or URL in the lower-left corner of a profile banner. The profile photo covers that corner on desktop.
- Centering a tagline in the full 1584 × 396 frame. On a phone the top and bottom bands are cut, so a line placed in the top 83 px or bottom 83 px can vanish.
- Using the outdated 1128 × 191 company size from older guides. LinkedIn's Pages page currently asks for 1512 × 256 and treats it as the minimum.
- Uploading WEBP or HEIC. LinkedIn's help page lists only JPG and PNG for the profile cover image, and a third-party guide reports that WEBP and HEIC fail to save.
- Stretching a small image. A 1000 px-wide image blown up to 1584 px looks soft on high-density screens; the resizer warns when it has to enlarge.
Which LinkedIn banner are you making?
LinkedIn has several banners and they are not interchangeable. The personal profile banner, which LinkedIn's help page now calls the cover image (the app still says background photo in places), is 1584 × 396 (LinkedIn Help). A company Page cover is 1512 × 256, and the Life tab main image on the same Page is 1128 × 376 (LinkedIn Pages image specifications).
Event banners follow a separate rule: 16:9, at least 480 px wide, with 1280 × 720 as one of the sizes LinkedIn names (LinkedIn Help).
If you manage both a personal profile and a Page, make two files. The ratios differ enough that a shared image will always be cropped awkwardly on one of them.
A worked safe-area example for the profile banner
Take the third-party mobile measurements at face value: about 117 px lost on each side and about 83 px lost at the top and bottom of a 1584 × 396 image. That leaves 1584 − 2 × 117 = 1350 px across and 396 − 2 × 83 = 230 px down, so roughly a 1350 × 230 window that is 5.9:1, nearly the same shape as a company Page cover.
That window is where a phone viewer sees your text, and because it is the stricter of the two views, text inside it shows on desktop too. On desktop the profile photo covers about the lower-left 200 × 150 px. That reaches 83 px past the phone window's left edge and 67 px into its bottom edge (200 − 117 = 83, 150 − 83 = 67), so the safest rule for both views is to keep text in the middle band and right of center.
These numbers are approximations from third-party testing. Check them yourself: upload the banner, open your profile on a phone, and note where the edges fall. The resizer's safe-zone box draws the approximate window so you can start from it.
Design the banner to be read in two seconds
A banner is read at thumbnail scale next to a headshot, so it should carry one idea. Pick one of these and stop.
- A one-line statement of what you do, in text large enough to read on a phone when the banner shrinks to the phone's width.
- A product, workspace or event photo with no text at all.
- A flat brand color or simple pattern that frames the headshot.
File type, weight and sharpness
For a profile banner LinkedIn lists JPG or PNG, under 8 MB. Company Page images must be PNG or JPEG with a maximum of 3 MB, and the Pages page says that for the best resolution you should use the recommended dimensions and a high-resolution JPEG instead of a PNG (LinkedIn Pages image specifications).
LinkedIn's page names only JPG and PNG for the profile banner. Magic Studio says a static GIF also uploads and that WEBP and HEIC files fail with a save error; we could not confirm either from LinkedIn, so export JPG or PNG. Export at exactly the stated pixel size; LinkedIn does not publish what it does with oversized banners.
LinkedIn banner vs other platform banners
A 4:1 banner is wider than most. A Facebook cover photo is much taller, a YouTube channel banner is built around a central text-safe area, and the Discord banner has its own ratio again. Reusing a LinkedIn banner elsewhere means re-cropping it, and the resizer above can do that from the same source file.
Third-party sources such as Waalaxy repeat the Page figures, which agree with LinkedIn's current page. We rely on LinkedIn's own help pages for every number marked official.
What we could not confirm
- LinkedIn publishes no minimum size for the profile background photo, only the recommended 1584 × 396 and the 8 MB cap.
- The mobile crop (about 117 px per side, 83 px top and bottom) and the profile photo overlap (about 200 × 150 px) come from third-party guides, not LinkedIn, and vary by device and app version.
- LinkedIn lists only JPG and PNG for the profile banner. Whether a static GIF works (Magic Studio says it does) and the report that WEBP and HEIC fail to save are third-party claims we could not confirm.
- The company logo's position over a Page cover (lower-left, per Waalaxy) and the area it covers are not published by LinkedIn. LinkedIn's own advice is to keep key details central and away from the lower-right corner.
- LinkedIn changes its layouts without notice. We verified the numbers on 2026-10-05 and did not test every phone model.
LinkedIn banner size FAQ
What is the best LinkedIn banner size?
1584 × 396 pixels for a personal profile (4:1, JPG or PNG, under 8 MB). A company Page cover is 1512 × 256 pixels instead.
What size is a LinkedIn company page banner?
1512 × 256 pixels, PNG or JPEG, under 3 MB, according to LinkedIn's Pages image specifications. Older guides list 1128 × 191, which is out of date.
Why is my LinkedIn banner cropped on mobile?
The mobile app shows a smaller window of the image than desktop does. Third-party tests put it near 1350 × 230 px of the 1584 × 396 file. Keep text and faces in the middle band and re-upload if anything is clipped.
Where does the profile photo cover the banner?
On desktop it overlaps the lower-left corner, by about 200 × 150 px in third-party measurements. LinkedIn publishes no exact number, so leave that corner empty.
Can I use a GIF or WEBP as a LinkedIn banner?
LinkedIn's help page lists only JPG and PNG for the profile cover image. One third-party guide says a static GIF works and that WEBP or HEIC files fail to save. Neither is confirmed by LinkedIn, so export JPG or PNG.
How do I resize an image for a LinkedIn banner without cropping?
Use Fit inside with a solid background in your brand color. A 3:2 photo fitted to the 396 px height is 594 px wide, which leaves about 495 px of background on each side of a 1584 px banner, so it suits a centered logo or headshot rather than a wide scene.
What size is a LinkedIn event banner?
16:9, at least 480 px wide. LinkedIn names 480 × 270 and 1280 × 720 as example sizes; 1280 × 720 gives the sharper result.
