| Single image, vertical 4:5LinkedIn lists several vertical sizes (628 × 1200, 600 × 900, 720 × 900), says vertical images serve only on mobile, and recommends 4:5 because 1:1.91 vertical images get borders on both sides. | 720 × 900 | 4:5 | Min: 360 × 640 px (any vertical image)Max: 2430 × 4320 px (any vertical image) | JPG, PNG, GIFLimit: 5 MB | LinkedIn: single image ad specsPlatform's own page |

How LinkedIn shows your image
- Horizontal 1.91:1, square 1:1 and vertical 4:5 are all accepted for a single image ad. Horizontal and square serve on desktop and mobile; LinkedIn says vertical images serve only on mobile.
- The headline and intro text are separate fields shown with the image, not part of it. LinkedIn advises up to 70 characters for the headline and 150 for the intro text to avoid truncation.
- LinkedIn says carousel images are scaled to 312 × 312 px, so fine detail is lost.
- LinkedIn notes that square and vertical images might be cropped when an ad is shared organically.
- LinkedIn lists no safe zone for image ads. Keep your own margin.
How to resize and upload
- 01Choose the shape: square if one image must work on desktop and mobile, horizontal for wide artwork, vertical 4:5 for mobile only.
- 02Pick the matching preset in the resizer above. Build carousel cards as 1080 × 1080 squares even when the single image version of the ad is horizontal.
- 03Position the image or use Fit inside if nothing may be cut.
- 04Download as PNG for text-heavy artwork or JPG for photos, and confirm the file is under 5 MB (10 MB per carousel card).
- 05Upload it in LinkedIn Campaign Manager and check the ad preview on both desktop and mobile before you launch.
Common mistakes to check before you post
- Using a vertical image and expecting it on desktop. LinkedIn says vertical images show only on mobile.
- Building carousel cards at 1.91:1. LinkedIn recommends 1080 × 1080 squares for each card.
- Repeating the headline inside the image. The headline field already shows it; the image can carry something different.
- Copying a guide that says 1200 × 627. LinkedIn's own figure is 1200 × 628; the one-pixel difference is harmless, but check which source a guide used.
- Uploading an animated GIF to a carousel. Carousel cards take non-animated images only.
- Ignoring the minimums. A horizontal image under 640 × 360 px is below LinkedIn's minimum.
Which LinkedIn ad image size should you use?
LinkedIn recommends 1200 × 628 for horizontal single image ads and gives matching square (1200 × 1200) and vertical (720 × 900, 4:5) sizes (LinkedIn Marketing Solutions Help). The help page recommends vertical images but notes they serve only on mobile, and recommends 4:5 over 1:1.91 to avoid side borders.
If you only make one version, LinkedIn's marketing spec page recommends square for delivery across both desktop and mobile (single image ad specs). Horizontal also serves on both. Add a 4:5 version when most of your audience is on phones.
Worked example: file size and pixel count
A 1200 × 628 image has 753,600 pixels. LinkedIn's 5 MB cap is far above what a typical JPG of that size needs, so the cap usually matters only for large PNGs with gradients or photos. If a PNG is over 5 MB, export the same pixels as a JPG instead of shrinking the dimensions.
The maximums are generous (7680 × 4320 for horizontal), and LinkedIn says images are scaled down automatically whatever their original size, so going bigger than 1200 px buys little. Export at the recommended size and you will rarely hit a limit.
Carousel ads
A carousel ad takes a minimum of two cards and a maximum of ten, each a 1080 × 1080 square up to 10 MB in JPG, PNG or non-animated GIF (LinkedIn Help). LinkedIn says images are scaled to 312 × 312 px, so write text large and short.
Keep one idea per card and make the first card work alone, since it is the one that appears before anyone swipes.
Text limits shown with the image
LinkedIn's help page advises up to 70 characters for the headline and 150 for the intro text to avoid truncation; the hard maximums are 200 and 3,000 (LinkedIn Marketing Solutions Help). The optional ad name takes up to 255 characters, and the destination URL needs an http:// or https:// prefix and can be up to 2,000 characters.
The description differs between LinkedIn's pages: the help page says 100 characters to avoid truncation (300 maximum), and the marketing spec page says 70 characters, required only on the LinkedIn Audience Network. Check Campaign Manager's preview for the final result.
Video ads
LinkedIn recommends the 4:5 vertical ratio for video, at 720 × 900 (360 × 450 to 1080 × 1350). Horizontal 16:9 runs from 640 × 360 to 1920 × 1080, with 1920 × 1080 or 1200 × 675 recommended; square runs from 360 × 360 to 1920 × 1920; and 9:16 runs from 360 × 640 to 1080 × 1920 (LinkedIn video ad specs).
Files must be MP4, between 75 KB and 500 MB, and 3 seconds to 30 minutes long, with frame rates under 30 fps. Videos under 30 seconds loop until they have played for at least 30 seconds. The resizer on this page handles images, so use it for the optional video thumbnail (JPG or PNG, up to 2 MB, same ratio as the video).

What we could not confirm
- We checked Sponsored Content video specs only; in-stream video ads (in testing, per LinkedIn) and CTV ads have their own rules and were not verified.
- The exact vertical sizes vary (628 × 1200, 600 × 900, 720 × 900 all appear on LinkedIn's page); we list 4:5 at 720 × 900 because LinkedIn recommends the 4:5 ratio.
- LinkedIn's pages disagree on the description limit (100 to avoid truncation and 300 maximum on the help page, 70 on the marketing spec page). Text limits may also differ by objective or placement.
- LinkedIn publishes no safe zone for ad images and no shape for the mobile slot; the border widths in the diagram assume a 4:5 slot.
- We did not verify Document ads, Conversation ads, Message ads or Thought Leader ad specs.
LinkedIn ad specs FAQ
What size is a LinkedIn ad image?
1200 × 628 pixels (1.91:1) for a horizontal single image ad, as a JPG, PNG or GIF up to 5 MB. LinkedIn scales larger images down automatically, so exporting wider than 1200 px gains little.
What size are LinkedIn carousel ad images?
1080 × 1080 per card, two to ten cards, up to 10 MB each in JPG, PNG or non-animated GIF.
What is the minimum LinkedIn ad image size?
640 × 360 for horizontal, 360 × 360 for square and 360 × 640 for vertical, per LinkedIn's single image ad page.
Do vertical LinkedIn ads show on desktop?
No. LinkedIn says vertical images serve only on mobile, and recommends 4:5 for vertical to avoid borders. Use square or horizontal for desktop.
What are the LinkedIn video ad specs?
LinkedIn recommends 4:5 vertical at 720 × 900, or 16:9 at 1920 × 1080. Files are MP4, 75 KB to 500 MB, and 3 seconds to 30 minutes long. Square and 9:16 are also accepted.
How long can a LinkedIn ad headline be?
LinkedIn advises up to 70 characters to avoid truncation, with a hard maximum of 200. For intro text the figures are 150 characters to avoid truncation and 3,000 at most.
