Facebook event cover photo size (2026): 1920 × 1005 px

A Facebook event cover photo should be 1920 × 1005 pixels, a 1.91:1 ratio. Third-party guides report this size, not Facebook; older guides say 1920 × 1080 (16:9), so keep key content in the center.

A 16:9 frame at 1005 px tall is 1005 × 16 ÷ 9 = 1787 px wide, so about 67 px goes from the left and 66 px from the right.

  • Kept: 1920 × 1005
If you used the older 1920 × 1080 shape and a surface shows 1.91:1, the height becomes 1920 ÷ 1.91 = 1005 px, losing about 38 px at the top and bottom.

How Facebook shows your image

  • Sprout Social says the event photo appears in three places: the Upcoming Events list as a thumbnail, the event page itself, and the news feed.
  • Sprout says feed images display at nearly the same dimensions as the event page, while the Upcoming Events thumbnail is much smaller. Facebook does not publish the frame sizes.
  • The 1.91:1 and 16:9 shapes differ by about 75 px in height at 1920 wide, so a centered subject survives both.
  • Sprout says Facebook scales event photos down to a minimum of 400 × 150. PostFast gives 1200 × 628 as the minimum instead; we could not confirm either with Facebook.
  • Events created by a Page and events created by a person look the same in our sources; we could not confirm any difference.

How to resize and upload

  1. 01Choose Event cover 1920 × 1005 in the resizer above, or Smaller 1200 × 628 if your source is narrower than 1920 px, then drop in your image.
  2. 02Drag the picture or use the arrow keys until the main subject sits in the center. Detect subject helps.
  3. 03Turn on Show safe zone. Keep the event name, date and any logo inside the dashed box so both the 1.91:1 and 16:9 shapes show them.
  4. 04Keep text large. The same image is shown as a small thumbnail in the Upcoming Events list.
  5. 05Download JPG for photos or PNG for text-heavy posters. We found no Facebook file-size limit for event covers.
  6. 06Create or edit your event and add the cover. Check the preview in the editor.
  7. 07After publishing, open the event in the feed and in your events list on a phone to confirm the text is still readable.

Common mistakes to check before you post

  • Reusing your Page cover. An 851 × 315 file is about 2.7:1, much wider than 1.91:1, so it cannot fill an event frame without heavy cropping.
  • Setting the date in small type. The thumbnail in the events list is small, so thin text vanishes.
  • Placing text within 70 px of the left or right edge. A 16:9 frame removes about 67 px per side.
  • Starting from a Story-shaped 9:16 poster. Cropping it to 1.91:1 leaves only a thin horizontal band.
  • Uploading a screenshot at 400 px wide. That is at or below the minimums guides report (400 × 150 or 1200 × 628), and a file that small is soft.
  • Trusting old guides. Some still say 1920 × 1080; confirm the shape in the editor preview.

Which event cover size to use

Use 1920 × 1005 (1.91:1). Sprout Social gives it as the recommended event image size in a guide published January 30, 2024, and PostFast and ContentStudio give the same number. We could not find a Facebook help page that states an event cover size, and PostFast notes that Meta no longer publishes a hard pixel spec for event covers, so this is the best-supported figure rather than an official one.

Sprout and PostFast both label the shape 16:9, but 1920 ÷ 1005 is 1.91, not 1.78. If it were truly 16:9, the height would be 1080, which is the older size PostFast lists. So guides disagree with themselves, and the center-safe approach is the sensible hedge.

If you need a smaller file, 1200 × 628 keeps the same 1.91:1 shape. Stockimg recommends it, and PostFast calls it the minimum. It will look softer on large screens.

Worked example: surviving both shapes

Say your poster is 1920 × 1005 and a surface crops to 16:9. The frame height stays 1005, so width becomes 1005 × 16 ÷ 9 = 1787 px. The leftover 1920 − 1787 = 133 px splits into about 67 px on the left and 66 px on the right.

Now the reverse. If you built the old 1920 × 1080 file and the surface shows 1.91:1, height becomes 1920 ÷ 1.91 = 1005 px, and 1080 − 1005 = 75 px splits into about 38 px at the top and bottom.

Keep text at least 70 px from the sides and 40 px from the top and bottom, and it survives either file in either frame. The resizer's safe-zone overlay marks the side margin.

Where the cover appears

Per Sprout, the event photo shows in the Upcoming Events list as a thumbnail, on the event page, and in the news feed at nearly the same dimensions as the event page. The thumbnail is the demanding case: it is small, and you cannot control its crop.

That is why event covers need big, short text. An event name and a date in heavy type work; a paragraph does not. Put the details in the event description, which is text and is never cropped.

Event cover vs Page cover

The Page cover has its own documented size on Facebook's help page: 851 × 315, under 100 KB for fastest loading. It is a much wider, shorter shape than an event cover, so the two are not interchangeable. The Facebook cover photo size guide covers how that crop works.

If you promote the event with ads, ad shapes are different again. The Meta ad specs cheat sheet lists them.

What we could not confirm

  • Facebook publishes no event cover size that we could find; its help page on adding an event cover gives none. 1920 × 1005 comes from Sprout Social (published January 30, 2024), PostFast and ContentStudio.
  • Sprout and PostFast call 1920 × 1005 16:9, which does not match the numbers. Other guides still say 1920 × 1080 or 1200 × 628.
  • The minimum is unconfirmed: Sprout says 400 × 150, PostFast says 1200 × 628.
  • The frame size in each of the three places the cover appears is not published, so the crop math is a precaution.
  • Stockimg recommends 1200 × 628 but calls it 2:1; 1200 ÷ 628 is 1.91.
  • We found no maximum file size or recommended file type from Facebook for event covers. Third-party limits vary, so we list none.
  • PostFast dates the change from 1920 × 1080 to 1920 × 1005 to June 1, 2024, but Sprout already gave 1920 × 1005 in January 2024. We found no Facebook announcement of the change.

Facebook event cover size FAQ

What size is a Facebook event cover photo?

1920 × 1005 pixels (1.91:1), reported by Sprout Social and PostFast. Facebook does not publish an event cover size we could find.

Is a Facebook event cover 16:9 or 1.91:1?

Guides disagree. 1920 × 1005 is 1.91:1; 16:9 would be 1920 × 1080. Keep text in the center and both shapes work.

What is the minimum event cover size?

Guides disagree. Sprout reports Facebook scales photos down to a minimum of 400 × 150 pixels; PostFast lists 1200 × 628. We did not find either on a Facebook page.

Can I use my Page cover for an event?

Not well. A Page cover is 851 × 315, about 2.7:1, which is much wider than an event cover's 1.91:1, so it can only fill an event frame with heavy cropping.

Can I resize an event cover after uploading it?

No. Facebook's help page says you can't edit the size of a cover photo after it's added to an event, so crop to 1920 × 1005 before you upload.

What text fits on a Facebook event cover?

Big, short text: the event name and date in heavy type. Sprout says the same photo appears as a small thumbnail in the Upcoming Events list, so put the details in the event description, which is never cropped.
