Questions
What resolutions are 16:9?
1280 × 720, 1600 × 900, 1920 × 1080, 2560 × 1440 and 3840 × 2160 are exactly 16:9. Any size whose width is a multiple of 16 and whose height is the same multiple of 9 is exact. Not exact, though close: 1366 × 768 (0.049% off) and 1360 × 768 (0.39% off).
How do I work out a 16:9 height from a width?
Multiply the width by 9 and divide by 16: 1920 × 9 ÷ 16 = 1080. The other way, width = height × 16 ÷ 9. At 768 px tall the width is 1365.33, so no exact whole-pixel 16:9 size is that tall.
How much of a 16:9 image does a 9:16 crop keep?
31.6%. The share kept is the smaller decimal divided by the larger: 0.563 ÷ 1.778. Padding a 16:9 image to 9:16 instead fills the same share of the canvas.
