YouTube ads shown as a thumbnail and headline in search results, next to videos, and on the home feed, playing only when clicked.

You pay when someone chooses to click the thumbnail, so the viewer arrives with intent and lands on a watch page where subscriptions and further viewing can follow. The format was previously called TrueView Discovery. Use it for consideration content, tutorials, and reviews. The frequent mistake is judging it on impressions and click-through when watch time and downstream action are the real signals.
